Dr. Bruce L. Keisling Appointed Executive Director of the UTHSC Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities and Shainberg Chair of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities
Bruce Keisling has been appointed the executive director of the Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities and Shainberg Chair of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He has served as associate director of the center for nine years and is the director / principal investigator of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities program. Dr. Keisling is a clinical psychologist and associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics.

Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in infants with older siblings with autism, researchers from around the country were able to correctly predict 80 percent of those infants who would later meet criteria for autism at two years of age.
On Wednesday, February 8, 2017 the server hosting IDEA.ed.gov crashed. The U.S. Department of Education has not removed the IDEA.ed.gov website. Within the same day, the site was redirected to a new page containing pertinent information relating to IDEA. The Department recognizes the concerns you have with the outage and is working on a long-term solution. The server was managed by a contractor, the Department is currently working to move the site and all files to a new stable host.

Given today's sociopolitical climate, now, perhaps more than any other time since the American eugenics movement, it's essential that there be conversations about personal and collective unconsciousness, the nature of prejudice, and scapegoating pertaining to citizens with disabilities. Much is at stake, including decisions made about the rightful place in society for people with disabilities - and in the minds of some, up to and including if there is such a place at all. While we need multiple ways of amplifying the voices of people with disabilities and their allies, accurate information about prenatal testing and its implications represents one critical dimension.
Children who have deaf-blindness miss out on opportunities for learning that other children receive incidentally or naturally as those without sensory impairment have access to the many sights and sounds from their environment. These missed opportunities can result in a sense of isolation from others and problems in communication skill development, concept formation, and overall learning. In the school setting deaf-blindness is considered a disability of access to the visual and auditory information provided in educational environments.

The American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities names Dr. Dalun Zhang as a 2017 Fellow (TX UCEDD)
The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) has announced that Dr. Dalun Zhang has been identified to receive the designation of Fellow of the Association (FAAIDD). Founded in1876, AAIDD is the oldest professional association concerned with intellectual and developmental disabilities. AAIDD advocates for the equality, dignity, and human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and for their full inclusion and participation in society.

Researchers at Vanderbilt have identified what may be a genetic "smoking gun" for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - a mutation in the gene for the critical neuronal protein CaMKII.
