Research Paper from the Indiana LEND selected for the 2022 IACC Summary of Advances

The 2022 IACC Summary of Advances in Autism Research provides summaries of the top 20 advances in autism biomedical and services research selected by members of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC). Articles in the Summary of Advances are grouped according to the topics represented by the seven Questions of the 2021-2023 IACC Strategic Plan for Autism Research, Services, and Policy (Screening & Diagnosis, Biology, Genetic & Environmental Factors, Interventions, Services & Supports, Lifespan, Infrastructure & Prevalence). In addition, the IACC has released an easy-read version to accompany the 2022 Summary of Advances that uses plain language to summarize the full publication in a brief, accessible format.

A research paper published by faculty and staff at the Indiana LEND was selected for inclusion in this 2022 Summary of Advances, in the Screening and Diagnosis category. Led by Debra Reisinger, PhD, HSPP, (formerly of the Indiana LEND and now with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine) a team of faculty and staff from the Indiana LEND published the paper titled “Provider and Caregiver Satisfaction with Telehealth Evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Young Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic” in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders.
The paper examined provider and caregiver satisfaction with telehealth evaluation of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in young children during the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, the majority of providers and caregivers were satisfied with telehealth ASD evaluation. Findings have important implications for the feasibility and acceptability of telehealth ASD evaluations, in addition to key factors to consider in optimizing and sustaining telehealth evaluations beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
