New Year Updates from our Community of Learners
2021 has arrived! Despite the challenges we have all faced during COVID-19, our Community of Learners have persevered and made excellent progress in their work.
Most notably, the Iowa team successfully hosted the 2020 Virtual Peer to Peer exchange in the midst of a severe derecho. The theme for P2P was The Iowa Family Navigator Model: Providing Family-to-Family Support to Families of Children and Youth with ASD/DD. The virtual event took place over three days and was filled with engaging workshops and inspiring panel discussions with family leaders. Participants included the current grantees from North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin, as well as former grantees from Delaware, Minnesota, Rhode Island, and Virginia. Information and presentations from the 2020 Peer to Peer Exchange can be found here.
To learn more about each grantee's work, check out their state profiles on the SPHARC webpage.
Autism Acceptance Month 2021
April is Autism Acceptance Month! During Autism Acceptance Month, we focus on sharing positive, respectful, and accurate information about autism and autistic people. We invite you to visit the official Autism Acceptance Month website (https://www.autismacceptancemonth.com/) hosted by our partners at the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN). This website serves as a central location for posting and sharing information about autism acceptance-themed events occurring across the United States for the entire month.
The State Public Health Autism Resource Center (SPHARC), is excited to announce that it will be hosting a Coffee Talk series for Autism Acceptance Month! The series will highlight four important topics such as girls on the spectrum, transition and employment, and will each coffee talk will feature subject matter experts as well as self-advocates. AMCHP 2021 Conference Global Meets Local:
A Global Approach for Local Outcomes
To us at AMCHP, global health means seeking to achieve equity in all that we do, in a way that promotes the well-being of every individual worldwide. What excites us about this year's theme? The opportunity to...
Explore how we in maternal and child health (MCH) are connected across the globe and through history
Blur the lines of our borders and take a global perspective to better understand the origins of the systems and policies influencing health outcomes in the United States
Find inspiration and partnership in the innovations of countries and geographic areas fighting for health equity and wrestling with complex challenges that greatly impact the health of women, children, youth, families, and communities
Value and uplift community expertise and cultural diversity in public health practice
Celebrate and place ourselves within movements for social justice and active resistance against systems/structures of oppression
Consider the work of United States MCH leaders as part of a global community committed to optimal health and wellbeing for all and create a space for collaborative, transnational learning in MCH
The 2021 AMCHP Annual Conference will be held May 22-25 at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, LA. At this time, AMCHP is planning for an in-person meeting in New Orleans with a virtual component and registration option. We will update the AMCHP membership community if it is necessary to alter the conference format due to COVID-19. Please visit our conference website for more information: https://www.eventscribe.com/2021/AMCHP2021/
