These activities are carried out in alignment with the DD Act (hyperlink) through the UCEDD core functions which include: (1) interdisciplinary training including continuing education; (2) community service including training, technical assistance, model, and demonstration services; (3) research including evaluation, and analysis of public policy; and (4) information dissemination. The ExceLens series highlights the valuable work of the UCEDDs within university systems, the community, and in the lives of people with disabilities across the lifespan and their family members

The Center for Leadership in Disability Presents 8th Annual AUCD Leadership Academy Cohort

The Center for Leadership in Disability (CLD) out of Georgia State University, with support from the The Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD), presents the 8th Annual AUCD Leadership Academy cohort!

The AUCD Leadership Academy is a week-long intensive experience, paired with a year of pre- and post- interactions designed to enhance the skills of current and emerging leaders from disability networks to build coalitions to improve systems of supports and services. The Leadership Academy engages participants from UCEDDs, LENDs, IDDRCs and the wider community of disability partners to come together to immerse themselves for a week of study, shared experiences, self-evaluation, and skill development.

This year’s cohort engaged in 4 main content areas, which included Courage & Renewal, a history of disability and civil rights, building partnerships and collective impact, and self-awareness and leadership. The history of disability and civil rights competency included participating in presentations on the evolution of disability policy and learn about current issues in national policy and implications for states. Facilitated discussions will center on topics such as advocacy, independent living, and the Disability Rights movement today.  Trainees participated in experiences designed to increase their knowledge and skills related to forming and maintaining successful partnerships that feature alliances across organizations and perspectives. Trainees reflected on their personal commitments and style of leadership.
