OHSU Institute on Development and Disability UCEDD Expands Impact of Sexual Health Education

The UCEDD at OHSU has implemented The Friendships and Dating Program, created by the University of Alaska Anchorage Center for Human Development, in Oregon for the past three years. With its growing success, the FDP has received a grant extension and will continue for another year.

UCEDD Resource Center ExceLens Series: The Ohio State University (OSU) Nisonger Center: All Smiles in Ohio: OSU Nisonger Center Dental Clinic

The ExceLens series highlights the valuable work of the UCEDDs within university systems, the community, and in the lives of people with disabilities across the lifespan and their family members. The dental program at The Ohio State University (OSU) Nisonger Center opened in 1971 as a program initially designed to care for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As the patient population aged, the practice on campus (McCampbell Hall) transitioned from children to adult patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to ensure access to care. In 2003, a separate stand-alone dental clinic was opened in the community to continue serving the oral healthcare needs of children and adolescents with IDD. The McCampbell Hall facility is the only clinic in Ohio whose entire focus is adults with IDD.

ICI Laura Bozeman Receives Award

Laura Bozeman, professor and graduate program director for Vision Studies, was presented with the Suterko-Cory Award in recognition of her international leadership, dedication to the profession of orientation and mobility, and distinguished efforts to improve services to individuals with a visual impairment. This award recognizes Dr. Bozeman as an international ambassador and role model to orientation and mobility specialists throughout the world. The award recognizes her commitment to the field of vision studies and its expansive reach beyond her home boundaries, with an international impact across the United States as well as the Pacific Islands, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, and Ireland. She received this award at the 18th International Mobility Conference held in Warsaw, Poland.

UCEDD Success Stories - University of Washington Center for Technology and Disability Studies: Addressing Hesitancy and Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccines for Everyone

The University of Washington Center for Technology and Disability Studies is an interdisciplinary program within the Center for Human Development and Disability and the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in the School of Medicine. Their work is supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and other funding sources.

Center for Disability Resources Executive Director at White House Meeting

UCEDD director Dr. David Rotholz participated in an invitation only meeting at the White House in May 2023. This event was to discuss innovative ways federal funding can be used to improve the lives of South Carolinians, including those with disabilities. Organized by the Office of Public Engagement the half-day event connected 50 elected officials, community and organization leaders, veterans and clergy from across the state to help build a better South Carolina. Our UCEDD was one of the two disability focused organizations included in this event.

2024 Call for Presentation Proposals - 39th Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's Center on Disability Studies, in the College of Education, is accepting presentation proposals for the 39th Annual Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity, February 27-28, 2024 in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. The School of Education and Human Development Announces Dr. Dalun Zhang as the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs

Dr. Dan (Dalun) Zhang has accepted the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs position in our School of Education and Human Development. Since accepting the interim role in January, Dr. Zhang has excelled in serving the best interests of our faculty and our School. He is also a Professor of Special Education in the Department of Educational Psychology (EPSY), a Faculty Affairs Leadership Development Fellow in SEHD and a Director of the Center on Disability and Development.

Work-Based Learning with the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University Spotlight

Joshua ISD's work-based learning project recently created balloon centerpieces that were featured at two end of the school year events. They provided decorations for the annual HOSA banquet and the district end of year banquet. Joshua's WBL project creates a variety of balloon center pieces and other balloon party decorations. This project has a special focus on adaptive equipment, so all students are able to contribute.

The Waisman TIES Clinic, a Psychiatry Clinic that Looks at Disability and Mental Health through a Holistic Lens

Mental health is import for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Waisman TIES (Training, Intervention, and Evaluation Services) Psychiatric Clinic is a unique resource that provides psychiatric care and consultation to Wisconsin residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The clinic often sees individuals who are unable to obtain psychiatric care from other providers due to their insurance, financial situation, behavioral issues, or medical complexities.
