The University of Washington (UW) Center on Human Development and Disability (CHDD) has been renamed the UW Institute on Human Development and Disability (IHDD), with Dr. Sandra Juul appointed as the new Director. The IHDD is a research, service, and training center that aims to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families through various programs and services, including diagnostic, assessment, and treatment services.
Dr. Sandra Juul, a highly respected clinician and researcher in the field of neonatology and developmental disabilities, has been appointed as the new Director of the IHDD. She has been a faculty member at UW for over 25 years, serving as the Division Chief of Neonatology at Seattle Children's Hospital and the University of Washington. Her research focuses on improving the neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm infants and advocating for the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of society.
Under Dr. Juul's leadership, the UW IHDD will continue to be one of the largest and most comprehensive interdisciplinary service, research, and training centers that focus on children and adults at risk for or who have established developmental disabilities. The new website for the UW IHDD (www.ihdd.org) provides information about the Institute's mission, programs, and services, as well as resources for individuals with disabilities and their families, and information for professionals in developmental disabilities.
Overall, the promotion of the UW CHDD to the UW IHDD and the appointment of Dr. Sandra Juul as the new director represent an important step forward in the field of disability studies. The UW IHDD will continue to play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of disability and improving the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families.
