This webinar will provide an overview of facilitators and barriers to participating in physical activity for autistic adults.  Attendees will learn of new approaches to supporting inclusive physical activity with community partners. There will also be time for questions and answers.

Brianne Tomaszewski, MPH, PhD (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill TEACCH Autism Program, Department of Psychiatry) 

Brianne Tomaszewski, MPH, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the TEACCH Autism Program in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a developmental scientist specializing in adaptive behavior, employment, and developmental trajectories in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).  Her long-term goal is to improve the quality of life in individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders by implementing community-informed programs that promote success. Dr. Tomaszewski Serves as the principal investigator on an  NIA R01 clinical trial of a physical activity intervention for adults with IDD, an ACL-funded Project of National Significance community collaboration for employment for youth and adults with ID, a NIDILRR funded Disability Research Project for inclusive community participation for adults with IDD, a DOD-funded clinical trial of a community-college-based program for autistic adolescents and adults, and a contract with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services leading the re-development of the employment strategic plan for individuals with IDD. These projects aim to promote mental and physical health outcomes through inclusive employment, postsecondary education, and community participation opportunities. Autistic individuals and individuals with IDD are critical partners in this work
