August 27, 2024

Project DIVERSE: Doctoral Scholars Implementing Socially Valid Evidence-Based Practices and Research for Improving the Language, Literacy, and Social-Emotional Outcomes of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Exceptional Learners.

Dr. Lisa Bowman-Perott organized the first Project DIVERSE Summer Institute with doctoral scholars at TAMU, Baylor, and UTSA with her Project DIVERSE grant. It was held June 17-18 at Baylor in Waco. This is a prospective funding opportunity for students admitted into the EPSY doctoral program with an emphasis in special education.

Project DIVERSE represents an interdisciplinary collaboration between Baylor University (BU), Texas A&M University (TAMU), and The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The project will prepare doctoral scholars focused on developing expertise in evidence- based practices focused on academic language, assessment, as well as social, emotional, and behavioral support for culturally and linguistically diverse learners with disabilities. Project DIVERSE also emphases individualized intervention of learning and/or behavior difficulties within a prevention science framework and integrates expertise, coursework, and research involvement across the fields of bilingual education, English as a second language, and special education.
