iGROW Central Texas had their first parent training on Monday, October 21st at the Lee County Youth Center. Approximately 40 parents, educators and students were in attendance from La Grange, Giddings and Lexington I.S.D.s. Aimee Ortiz-Day, Director of Person Centered Planning and Family Outreach for the Center on Disability and Development, shared a brief overview of Person Centered Thinking with the families to make them aware of the plan their child will develop as part of the iGROW Program.
The iGROW team was honored to share our work at the DCDT (Division on Career Development and Transition) Conference in October in Chantilly, Virginia with a poster presentation. Program Director, Kelly Majewski and East Texas Program Coordinator, Echo Johnson engaged with individuals from across the United States sharing our work while gaining knowledge and ideas from others about ways to strengthen and build upon the iGROW program.
The Central Texas iGROW students had a guest speaker from Whistlestop Acres in October. Rachel Students with a goatRobinson, owner and licensed professional counselor, spoke to our students about managing stress, emotions, and how to spark motivation and maintain focus. “Billy” the goat, one of the therapy animals from WhistleStop Acres, also came to visit the students in Bellville ISD.
