Usability Study of an Innovative Mobility Device

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2016
Contact Information:
Product Description:
Despite the recognition that falling in the elder population is costly in quality of life and in health expenditures, strategies to decrease falling and to attenuate injury should a fall occur have been unsuccessful in their aim. Elders with mobility impairments are at disproportionately high risk for falling as many do not comply with the use of devices that would otherwise provide the opportunity for movement and safe ambulation, thereby reducing sedentary lifestyles, falling and the negative results of both on health and wellbeing. This research is being conducted to test the usability and design and branding preferences of elder users of a new innovative device which counters the reasons that elders abandon mobility equipment. The results will be used to inform further development and distribution of the device that will have a significant benefit for elders.
