Vermont's Journey Towards Inclusive Employment
Product Description:
This article will outline the U.S.A.s state of Vermont transformation from segregated, sheltered employment to integrated, community-based employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Vermont started a supported employment demonstration project in 1980 and replicated and expanded the program throughout the state. In 2002, the last sheltered workshop was successfully converted to community-based employment.
We'll examine the issues of policy change, training, and culture-shift needed to foster the conversion of sheltered workshops to community-based employment services and examine the current state of services and goals for the future.
