Improving the health status of infants, children and adolescents and their families often involves collaboration and planning among the health, educational, developmental, public health and social services sectors, as well as engagement of community participation. The purpose of this course is to examine and evaluate the principles and leadership issues underlying current planning efforts that have evolved to improve health outcomes for women and children.
This seminar will examine the role of leadership in the decision-making process and the characteristics of community-based organizations involved in major issues facing maternal and child health in Los Angeles County. The first few sessions will be devoted to leadership training and adapting strategies from the business community. Students will also learn about change strategies, negotiation and conflict resolution.
