Lessons Learned: Benefits and barriers of using telehealth to provide Behavioral Parent Training to children with developmental disabilities.
Product Description:
Behavioral parent training provided via telehealth is emerging as a way to provide much needed services to rural children with autism and other developmental disabilities in rural areas. Attendees will gain information about this innovative, empirically-based model that can be used to address the needs of underserved populations. In addition, attendees will hear perspectives from all participating stakeholders and should be able to use the lessons shared to guide the successful implementation of this model in their own practice.
This presentation describes a practical model for providing needed services to underserved rural communities. Children in rural areas are more likely to have mental, behavioral and developmental disorders than children living in cities and suburbs (Kelleher and Gardner, 2017) but these families often have to endure a lack of services. This presentation empowers providers to address this need, which allows families to speak up and advocate for access.
