A Model for (Spanish) Bilingual ASD Evaluations
Product Description:
The Autism Spectrum Evaluation Clinic (ASEC) provides comprehensive evaluations for children referred for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in New Mexico. We have developed a model to meet the specific needs of the children of New Mexico who are exposed to two languages (Spanish and English). The children arrive in our clinic as monolingual Spanish speakers, or with some acquisition of English as simultaneous or sequential learners. The assessment of ASD focuses on pragmatic language, thus it is imperative to assess children in the language in which they are most comfortable and proficient. We will outline the culturally and linguistically (CLC) appropriate model used in a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.
