Tiny children, Tough Choices
Product Description:
This journal issue addresses the struggles of ethical decision making that occurs in the medical care of low birth weight premature infants. As medical research and technology moves forward and allows for more sophisticated interventions, more premature infants are likely to survive. The dilemma lies in the high risk for developmental disability. Where is the support for people making decisions on procedures and medical interventions for a baby that is medically fragile? We hope to illustrate the issues that continue to face our medical community and expectant parents as medical technology advances. How much medical intervention is too much? How early is too early? Are we as a society providing supports for these children and families throughout the lifespan? In this issue we present a number of authors who offer a variety of perspectives as they tell their stories of their experiences in this decision making process.
