Developed from a task force meeting held in 2001 by the Council on Social Work Education, Casey Family Programs, and the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, this social work text examines these child welfare, substance abuse, and family violence in the context of culturally competent social work practice. This chapter describes the experience of African Americans in a program that integrated substance abuse and mental health service into Head Start and primary care settings.
