Assistive technologies (AT) play a vital role in the lives of a great many individuals with disabilities. The items range from simple and inexpensive to technologically advanced with price tags to match. Yet, despite the fact that these items even exist, and can potentially turn a bleak existence into a meaningful and productive life, or simply a more comfortable life, more often than not, the disabled go without. Why? These technologies are beyond the budgets of average individuals, and insurance companies are very reluctant to cover these items, citing reasons such as lack of medical necessity, among others, to avoid the real reason for denial--cost. Fortunately, there are available sources of assistive technology funding, primarily at the federal/state government levels. This manual attempts to guide one through the various and major sources of AT funding.
