4.2 Disability Awareness Module

The yet to be disseminated Disability Awareness module takes two forms. One is designed to meet the needs of county agents in Texas. The module?s objectives are for county agents to be able to define disability and describe areas of need for people who may have disabilities. After going through the module, county agents will be able to locate statistics that are specific to their counties and describe legal obligations that they have toward clients who have disabilities. The second form is designed to meet the needs of teachers and education students who learn to define disability in terms of area of need, locate statistics in their area and other areas, describe legal obligations they have to their students. The module gives them an overview of resources to which they may refer students. Learners print out a worksheet that they fill out as they progress through the module. They learn how to address issues raised by students in real-world scenarios. The modules have been produced and will be disseminated in college level courses and on the web.
