AIDTAC: Native Vote Initiatives, Histories, and Economic Factors: A Look at Voting and American Indians with Disabilities
Product Description:
For the Native American Considerations and the Electoral Process project, associated with the Help America Vote Act.
The lives of those with disabilities may be seen as one measure of our society?s humanity. If our rights are valued, then all civilization is enhanced. It is imperative that Indians who live with a disability learn to access all the varied tools, such as the Protection and Advocacy System (P&As) programs that are provided by federal and state human service agencies. In this way, we protect our present and enliven our future. Many Indian people say that they want nothing to do with the "white man's government?. Indeed, Indians do suffer from many social ills and face political ostracism perpetrated by the prejudicial attitudes of the dominant culture. The result is an innate fear and mistrust of government entities. Protection and Advocacy staff must work to overcome this fear and mistrust of government sponsored programs.
