Product Description:
This publication tells the story of twenty diverse families from across the lifespan who represent a variety of disabilities. This book of stories describes the needs, capacities and experiences of these families through words and pictures of the individuals with disabilities and family members.
In Georgia, there are 2,190 people with disabilities waiting for community-based services (GA DD Council, 2002). Many other people with disabilities and their families are not informed about services or receive services that are not most appropriate to meet their needs. This publication helps everyone to understand the needs and capacities of the people and families on the waiting list in order to plan appropriate services, including family support.
As a result of this project: stakeholders who read the book of stories are better informed about the service and support needs of a group of individuals and their families who are waiting for services. They also learn about natural supports and the use of generic community services by families.
