Temperament (revised monograph)
Product Description:
What is temperament? There is no agreed upon definition of temperament, but it is generally conceived to be individual differences in styles of behavior. Temperament is not the same as personality, but the two are related. Personality reflects a child?s interests and motivations while his or her temperament is a characteristic way of responding to events, people, and things in the environment.
A child?s experiences have an effect on his/her temperament and development. There should be a goodness-of-fit between the child?s temperament and his/her experiences. Depending on what an individual child?s needs are, caretakers in the environment should respond in ways that meet that child?s particular needs. Development will be guided by how well the child?s needs are met within his/her environment.
