After participation in this module, students will: 1.Describe how child well-being is measured and find data on child well-being and health-related outcomes 2.Define ?children with special health care needs? (CSHCN) 3.Describe the prevalence of disabilities in childhood 4.List Health People 2010 objectives concerning child health and specifically concerning disabilities in childhood 5.Define the essential characteristics of the Medical Home model and its benefits for children with disabilities and their families 6.Demonstrate familiarity with Title V legislation and funding, and funded projects at the state level 7.Describe how assistive technology can benefit children with special needs 8.For Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, learning disability: 1) Define each and describe the prevalence, differential diagnosis, and possible co-morbidity; 2) List and briefly describe approaches to assuring early diagnosis; 3) Outline the possible approaches to initial evaluation; 4) Define the goals of treatment; 5) Summarize behavioral and developmental approaches to intervention 9.Describe the spectrum of emotional and behavioral symptoms in children with developmental disabilities and discuss treatment choice; 10.Discuss the importance of considering genetic diagnoses in children with developmental disabilities and indications that genetic testing might be valuable.
