There is limited data on the prevalence, the characteristics, or the out-of-home placement status of children with disabilities who are actively involved in the child welfare system. Without a clear sense of the prevalence of children with disabilities in the child welfare system and the characteristics of these children, it is exceedingly difficult to provide appropriate services and supports for children and their families (Bruhn, 2003; Horner-Johnson & Drum, 2006). The purpose of this study is to explore the prevalence and characteristics of children with disabilities within the child welfare system using administrative data, and to compare the characteristics of children with disabilities with those of children without disabilities, focusing particularly on ethnicity, gender, rural/urban location, and out-of-home placement rates. http://www.cehd.umn.edu/SSW/CASCW/research/learningModules/ChildrenDisabCW/default.asp
