Creating art through partnership: Artfest workshop promotes accessible art programming and self expression for all people.

The Center for Disabilities Studies partners annually with Art Therapy Express Program, Inc. to host a half-day workshop to create artwork for the CDS annual report calendar. Participants and volunteers discover that everyone can do art, no matter their level of ability or disability. Participants contribute in a meaningful way to a project that highlights the ways in which CDS works to create opportunities for people with disabilities. University of Delaware students, particularly those with a minor in disabilities studies, make authentic connections with people who have disabilities, and their families, while CDS benefits from their assistance. Volunteers enjoy learning techniques for adapting the materials, equipment, and teaching styles that enabled all attendees to participate fully in the event. Partnering with Art Therapy Express provided CDS a creative and visually distinct annual report calendar, as well as promotes the value of inclusive art opportunities in the state.
