Product Description:
The goal of this study was to examine the technical characteristics of newly- created general outcome measures (GOMs) in reading for students with significant cognitive disabilities. The participants in the study were 31 students with significant cognitive disabilities. It was found that the GOMs used in this study produced reliable data. The results establishing validity of the GOMs suggest that Rimes, K-4 Science Content Word Identification, Simple Maze, and Fry's 100 Sight Word Identification GOMs are the most promising measures in predicting student reading performance. Functional Pictures and Signs, Mixed Letter Identification, Fry's 100 Sight Word Identification, and K-4 Science Content Word Identification showed the best potential for measuring reading progress of students with significant cognitive disabilities. The results suggest GOMs to be a useful tool for teachers to predict and potentially monitor progress of students with significant cognitive disabilities in reading.
