Product Description:
Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) are serious, lifelong birth defects and developmental disabilities caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. They are 100% preventable. Still, a surprisingly large number of children are born with FASDs. Individuals with FASDs can have physical, mental, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities with possible lifelong implications. Educational materials are needed for foster and adoptive parents on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders to improve their awareness and understanding of the disorder, the screening process, interventions and how fetal awareness and understanding of the disorder, the screening process, interventions and how fetal alcohol spectrum disorders manifest across the lifespan. After consultation with NY State policy makers, it was determined that a needs assessment of organizations serving foster and adoptive parents throughout the state should be conducted to determine the scope of existing materials and training.
