Product Description:
More and more individuals with developmental disabilities?including autism, Down?s syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, and intellectual and social impairment resulting from a variety of other conditions?are living independently with supports. This is due mainly to two factors:
1. Continued use of person-centered planning and emphasis on individual choice
2. New York and other states? inability to keep developing supervised congregate care settings in light of decreased funding
These individuals receive training on many aspects of independent living, including shopping, cooking, personal hygiene, home maintenance, health management, cleaning, safety, financial management and socialization. To best support them, life skills trainers, families and health care professionals need reliable, evidence-based training material.
