Elevated Serum Ghrelin Levels in Adult Patients with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. Peer review draft
To our knowledge, this is the first report addressing serum ghrelin levels in adult patients with
CVS. In our study mean fasting serum ghrelin levels in adult CVS patients were significantly
elevated compared to the range for the normal subjects. These elevated serum ghrelin levels in
adult CVS suggest a potential role for the serum ghrelin levels in explaining the finding of the
rapid GE observed in the majority of CVS patients when in the remission state. These new
observations provide more insight into the pathophysiology of CVS in adults.
