Self-injury in a statewide sample of young children with developmental disabilities.

A research study designed to describe the occurrence of self-injurious behavior in young children between the ages of 18 and 72 months. Prevalence of SIB was 19.1% in the sample of 257 children and included head banging, self-biting, and hitting self. Factors associated with SIB in adults with ID were not associated with SIB in these children.
