Integrated Behavioral Health in Well-Child Visits: The Impact on Adherence to American Academy of Pediatrics Guidelines

The purpose of this study was to use a modified version of the Promoting Healthy Development Survey to assess the impact of integrating behavioral health services into well-child visits in underserved, remote, and/or fringe areas on adherence to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines for health supervision. Participants were 94 parents of children attending well-child visits. Group differences were examined for participants in well-child visits with a behavioral specialist and participants in a standard well-child visit. Findings suggest a statistically significant increase in respondent-rated perception for the number of topics covered with the integration of a behavioral healthcare specialist in the well-child visits. Respondent-rated perceptions of satisfaction with the topics covered were significantly different when compared to control group parent perceptions of satisfaction.
