What About Me? How Group Theapy May Support the Psychological Well-Being of "Typical" Siblings

This poster will demonstrate the unique development of siblings of those who are physically and/or intellectually disabled. The needs of the ?typical? child may often be overlooked. Examples of situations will be provided where the normal functioning sibling?s social and emotional development may be overlooked due to the extreme demands on the family?s time in caring for a child with a disability. The concept of supportive group therapy to address the unique position of siblings of a brother or sister with a disability will be proposed.
