Quality data for decision making continues to increase in importance as students? educational careers are impacted by test results and goal setting, as administrators try to balance effectiveness and efficiency, and as education legislation is formed. ?State data? is a misnomer; student and school data emerge from the local levels. To improve the quality and use of all state-reported special education data, partnerships among state and local agencies are vital. This presentation describes a systematic process developed by a national technical assistance (TA) center to increase the capacity of state staff to support local school district staff in analyzing data, targeting areas for improvement, planning effective improvement strategies, and evaluating the effect with the ultimate go of improving results related to outcomes for students with disabilities.
