S.1a Oregon Data on Health Disparities between Adults with and without Disabilities
Product Description:
The Oregon Office on Disability and Health (OODH) works to improve the health of people with disabilities (PWD) in the state. The BRFSS is a telephone survey of community-dwelling adults (age 18 and up) conducted annually by state public health agencies in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Survey questions about disability allow us to estimate the prevalence of disability in Oregon and compare health status, health behaviors, and health risks of adults with and without disabilities. Our most recent analyses found that 28.8% of Oregon adults have a disability. Overall, PWD report poorer health than people without disabilities, although more than half of PWD describe their health as excellent, very good, or good. PWD are much more likely to live in poverty than those without disabilities, and are more likely to have had a time in the past year when they did not receive needed healthcare due to cost.
