Product Description:
This trainer's guide developed through the Welcome the Children project, provides step-by-step instructions for presenting two seven-hour sessions targeted to English-speaking early childhood professionals and others who work with young Spanish-speaking children. The manual is intended to be used in conjunction with a three day train-the-trainer session, also provided through the Welcome the Children project. The training methods and materials used have been proven effective through an independent evaluation conducted by the University of Arkansas as Little Rock. Two seven-hour training modules have been developed: Module 1: “Cultural Diversity,” covers recognition and acceptance of cultural and linguistic diversity. Module 2: “Second Language Development and Assessment in Early Childhood,” covers the language and second language acquisition process for young children, how to assess children for language difference vs. language delay, and strategies for working with families to reinforce classroom activities.
