A multisite sample of children and adolescents (n = 471) and their caregivers completed questionnaires and interviews following a traumatic event. Children with greater acute stress symptoms reported more depression and anxiety. The study supports the importance of screening acute stress and other mental health symptoms in children following an acute trauma.
