Vita/Bio:

Angela Weaver, M.Ed., has worked in the disability field for more than 25 years. She earned her Masters in Education, Special Needs Education, at Colorado State University. She currently works with a wide variety of individuals, families, and professionals to promote health and wellness, and independence and inclusion for people with disabilities.

As the Project Coordinator for the Oregon Office on Disability and Health (OODH), Angela works closely with OODH colleagues and multiple state and community partners to accomplish OODH's projects and activities to improve the quality of life among Oregonians with disabilities. Angela is a Master Healthy Lifestyles Facilitator and conducts Healthy Lifestyles workshops throughout Oregon and Healthy Lifestyles Train-the-Trainer events throughout the United States.

As the co-chair of the Breast Health Task Force, a subcommittee of the Oregon Partnership for Cancer Control Prevention and Early Detection Workgroup, Angela works with Task Force members to promote and support activities to increase healthy lifestyles, breast cancer screenings, and reduce breast cancer risks and related deaths among women in Oregon and SW Washington. Angela serves on several other state committees related to disabilities and/or disability and health, and she presents at local, national, and international conferences on disability and health topics.

Angela's professional interests and activities include: health promotion for teens and adults with disabilities; transition issues for youth with disabilities; developing and maintaining partnerships between community members with disabilities, their family members and OIDD's researchers and program staff; and disability advocacy within public health.

In March 2010, Angela was awarded a Robert Wood Johnson, Ladder to Leadership Fellowship through the Center for Creative Leadership. She is one of 30 Fellows from Portland and SW Washington who were chosen to engage in a 16-month program designed to prepare leaders for community health leadership roles and responsibilities within the most vulnerable communities.
