STEVEN E. BROWN, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Disabilities Scholar, Center on Disability Studies (CDS), University of Hawai`i; and Co-Founder, Institute on Disability Culture.  Author of Movie Stars and Sensuous Scars:  Essays on the Journey from Disability Shame to Disability Pride (2003) and "Surprised to be Standing: A Spiritual Journey," (2011), as well as numerous articles, Brown teaches in the graduate, interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Disability and Diversity Studies at UH-Manoa ) http://www.cds.hawaii.edu/main/certificates/). Brown has been a PI or Project Director for several CDS projects relating to volunteerism, postsecondary education, and disability studies.
