AIDD Core: Supporting communication for patients with neurodegenerative disease Lay-language Report
Product Description:
Research article translated into lay language. Adults with progressive neurological diseases (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis [ALS], Primary Progressive Aphasia and Alzheimers disease) lose their abilities to communicate verbally and must rely on other ways to talk. This can be frustrating for the individual trying to communicate. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies and tools have been created so that people always have a way to communicate. In this article, we review communication supports for individuals with ALS, Primary Progressive Aphasia, and Alzheimers disease, and describe how three people use these tools for successful communication.
