This handout is designed for organizers and directors of volunteer community services and national service programs. Throughout history, people with cognitive disabilities have been excluded from many aspects of their communities. People with cognitive disabilities have been viewed only as recipients of services. Few have considered that these individuals have gifts to give to their communities and talents to share. People with cognitive disabilities desire and deserve opportunities to give back and to serve their communities. This handout describes 21 simple things you can do to help include people with cognitive disabilities in service and volunteering.
