Product Description:
Lois Curtis is a folk artist living in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Lois's gifts as an artist were lost to us for many years as she was forced to live in various state funded institutions. In 1995, when her continued requests for community support services were denied, Lois sued the State of Georgia. Her case went to the U.S. Supreme Court where it was ruled that unnecessary institutionalization amounts to segregation and is a violation of individual civil rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Lois' case is know as the Olmstead Decision and has resulted in freeedom for thousands of people with disabilities across the nation. All profits from sales of Lois' artwork go to Lois Curtis to help her continue to enhance the quality of her life as she has enhanced the lives of so many others. The cards come in a boxed set that includes 4 cards of 2 designs (color chalk renders of an African American child - Lois as a child) along with matching envelopes. The boxed sets sell for $7.99 each.
