AAC is a means of communication for individuals who are nonverbal, use limited speech, or have significant delays or deficits in their speech. The American Speech Language and Hearing Association lists different types of AAC: unaided (e.g. sign language, gestures) or aided, which can include low technology devices (e.g. core boards) and high technology devices (e.g. speech generating devices such as the GoTalk).
