According to the WHO (1998), public health is a social and political concept aimed at improving health, prolonging life and improving the quality of life of populations by promoting health, preventing diseases and other forms of health intervention. Public health is a "science" and an "art" ... whose purpose is to prevent ailments and disabilities, promote health, physical and mental efficiency, through organized community efforts for everyone, including those with DID.
