Product Description:
“Hawai‘i has one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation and a critical shortage of low-cost subsidized housing options. For people with disabilities who need a place to live (housing) and services and supports to meet their daily needs there are few options. Unfortunately, because of the lack of affordable, accessible, and integrated housing that is coordinated with services and supports, many people with disabilities in Hawai‘i remain in unnecessarily restrictive settings or without adequate housing.” This report includes: • discussion of barriers, obstacles, and challenges along with a list of potential solutions; • recommendations for the advocacy community as it supports people to live in their own homes. • a summary of meetings held during visit from May 6-10, 2002 (Appendix A); • an update of resources, recommendations, and suggestions contained in the initial report (Appendix B); and • additional housing resources (Appendix C).
