The effect of a disability elective on medical student awareness, attitudes, and clinical competency

Few medical school curricula include courses on disability, leaving most medical professionals ill-prepared to address the needs of patients with disabilities. We surveyed medical students to assess interest in a disability elective and learn in which topic areas students felt their knowledge was most lacking. the elective had a significant positive effect on medical students' self-reported disability knowledge, attitudes, and clinical competency.
