Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Educating Administrative Law Judges on Disability Issues. In April 2008, faculty members in the VKC TN UCEDD will train judges, attorneys, and law school professors from Tennessee and surrounding states on the topic of autism. The Judges will learn the basic science of autism and how assessments are done. They will be educated on comorbidities and on treatment options. It will give judges who hear special education cases the background they need to better understand the families who are in the court system seeking special education services. In August 2007, the VKC TN UCEDD conducted training with judges that focused on an overview of IDEA, on an overview of developmental disabilities, and on all assessment services and procedures related to developmental disabilities. All in 2 days!
