Severe problem behavior among children with pervasive developmental disorders Pervasive Developmental Disorders Definition Pervasive developmental disorders include five different conditions: Asperger's syndrome, autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD), pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified including autism, a developmental disability resulting from a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain. It is characterized by the abnormal development of communication skills, social skills, and reasoning. is relatively prevalent (Horner, Carr, Strain, Todd & Reed, 2002) and costly both to the individual and society (Schroeder, Rojahn, & Oldenquist, 1989). Severe forms of behavior problems such as self-injurious behavior or aggression can hinder communicative development and limit verbal and nonverbal communication nonverbal communication 'Body language', see there capacity (National Research Council, 2001).
