The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and the tragedy wrought by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 were shocking. These horrific events have sharpened awareness of the need to prepare for emergencies of many types. Direct support professionals need to understand how to prepare for and respond to both large and small emergencies. You also need to know how to recover from these types of events. This course is designed to help you understand the importance of being prepared for emergencies. It will help you to be informed about the many types of emergencies you could encounter. It will help you identify actions you should take. This course will help you to understand the important role you play in supporting people with disabilities during these times. You will learn about the similarities and differences between pandemics and other emergencies. You will also learn about the role of the direct support professional in many types of emergencies.
