Safety is important because accidents are among the leading cause of death and permanent disabilities among young children. Safety should be a primary concern for anyone working with children. Those who care for children have the responsibility to provide environments and activities that are safe. Programs that are well planned and provide a variety of developmentally appropriate learning experiences typically witness fewer accidents because children are interested and involved in what they are doing (Marotz, 2005).
