This course will provide an overview of rights issues as they relate to people with developmental disabilities and recipients of services. The use of human rights committees, guardianship, common rights restrictions and the DSP role in supporting rights protection and expression are reviewed. Consumer directed supports and daily choice are reviewed as strategies for helping people with developmental disabilities to earn about and express their rights. Lessons within this course include: Overview of Individual Rights, Overcoming a Past of Barriers and Restrictions, Restrictions of Individual Rights, Your Role in Supporting Expression of Rights and Facilitating Choice-Making
