Participant-directed services promote decision-making, choice, and control. They promote flexibility and more independence in supports provided to individuals with disabilities, elders, people with mental illness, and family members who support them. Participant-directed services provide opportunities for individuals to hire, dismiss, supervise, and train direct support professionals.
